The UK’s Kinkiest Universities – 2025 Study

From BDSM to roommate hookups, our new study crowns the UK’s most sexually adventurous campuses!

In a major nationwide study conducted with the survey platform Pollfish, we polled 2,000 UK university students to find out which campuses are the most sexually adventurous. The questions we asked were:

  1. Threesome Experience (% who have had one)
  2. BDSM/Kink Experience (% who have tried it)
  3. Roommate/Flatmate Hookups (% who have done it)
  4. Number of Sexual Partners (in the past year)
  5. Frequency of Sex (per month)

Each metric was normalized to a 0-100 scale and then averaged to produce a final “Kinky Score” for every institution with a sufficient sample size, resulting in a final ranking of 79 universities.

The Kink League Table: Plymouth Claims the Crown

With a combination of high partner counts and a strong willingness to experiment, University of Plymouth has been crowned the UK’s kinkiest university with a score of 51.6 out of 100.

At the other end of the spectrum, University of Strathclyde is the UK’s most “vanilla” campus, scoring just 8.1 – nearly seven times lower than Plymouth.

Elite universities are… surprisingly kinky?

While often associated with tradition and academic rigour, some of the UK’s most elite universities have surprisingly high Kinky Scores. University of Cambridge breaks into the top 10 at 9th place, while Imperial College London follows closely at 10th and Durham University at 11th.

This suggests that the high-pressure environments of these top-tier institutions may not suppress sexual exploration. On the contrary, it could be that the “work hard, play hard” mentality extends into students’ private lives. These universities attract ambitious, curious individuals who may be more open to new experiences in all aspects of life, including sex.

However, the trend is not universal. Other elite institutions like Warwick (77th), Sussex (76th), and Exeter (72nd) rank among the least kinky in the country, suggesting that institutional culture, rather than just academic prestige, plays a key role.

Methodology

This analysis is based on survey responses from 2,000 UK university students aged 18-24, collected in October 2025. The “Kinky Score” was calculated by normalizing five metrics (partners per year, sex frequency, threesome experience, BDSM experience, and roommate hookups) to a 0-100 scale and then taking the average of these five normalized scores. The final analysis includes 79 universities where sufficient sample sizes were available.
